A study by University of Miami researchers published in December shows that at least 35 buildings in Miami-Dade County have sunk by as much as three inches between 2016 and 2023.
Tina Paul, the vice mayor of Surfside, emphasized the need for more oversight, stating the study is definitive evidence of the need for accountability regarding new construction projects.
The study found that nearby construction projects may have accelerated or instigated the sinking of luxury high-rises, including noted buildings like the Surf Club towers.
