A local resident expressed empathy for the child's injury, highlighting the emotional impact on the community.
Officers responded to a 'self-inflicted gunshot wound' involving a toddler around 1:40 a.m. at the 2200 block of NW 210th Street, Miami Gardens police spokesperson Diana Delgado told the Herald. The young child had taken a single bullet to the leg when cops arrived.
Neighbors said they heard one shot fired on the complex grounds, just north of Hard Rock Stadium and behind Calder Casino, followed by a woman's cries for help, reported Miami Herald news partner CBS4.
Investigators honed in on a white car that appeared to have blood splattered across its backseat and outside on its rear.
Natasha Edge, who lives in the complex, expressed deep concern, stating, "If you have a sister or brother or a child gets hurt, like everybody, everybody hurts, we all bleed for that."
