Federal agents detained four men suspected of running a human smuggling operation that illegally transported nearly 30 Chinese migrants to Coral Gables. The operation was interrupted when a 911 call reported individuals being loaded into vans at the Snapper Creek Marina. Law enforcement subsequently discovered 26 migrants in two stopped vans. Further investigation revealed evidence of smuggling on a boat, including foreign candy wrappers and a cooler with water, reinforcing the illicit activity's nature.
Around 8:30 a.m., Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office marine patrol deputies stopped a 29-foot Well Craft center console boat... found tell-tale signs the boat was involved in smuggling.
A candy wrapper with Asian writing matched candy that was carried by some of the migrants found in the vans.
Agents found a black fanny pack with U.S. currency inside and a cooler with many bottles of water, typically associated with alien smuggling.
Coral Gables police officers stopped two vans... and found 26 people inside who turned out to be from China.
