The individual recounts their first encounter with panic attacks, including physical symptoms like elevated heart rate and blood pressure, leading to a potential ER visit. After experiencing this unsettling event, they consult a doctor who informs them about perimenopause at the age of 49. This marks the beginning of a challenging journey filled with various symptoms. Additionally, they share a personal history regarding their mother's benign pituitary tumor and hormone therapy, which influenced their understanding of menopause and made their own transition more complex.
I had a panic attack. Never had one before. My heart rate got up to 135 (or something like that) and my blood pressure was high.
After 45 minutes or so since the panic attack started, my heart rate and cold flushes finally dissipated. Three days later, I had a telemedicine appointment with my (female) doctor, and she introduced me to 'perimenopause.'
It's been quite a roller coaster of symptoms since then. As a side note, my mother had a benign pituitary tumor when I was about 7 years old.
I never knew/witnessed what should've been a normal transition into menopause.
