Woman 'keeled over in agony' from endometriosis
Briefly

Bekki Thomas, a 26-year-old woman from Clevedon, suffered from significant pain and chronic fatigue without a diagnosis for eight years, ultimately discovering she has endometriosis. Initially misdiagnosed by GPs as related to over-exercise or anxiety, her painful symptoms began at 11 years old. After researching her symptoms, she was finally diagnosed and treated with a Mirena coil, though she feels a lack of ongoing support. Thomas advocates for greater research and awareness of endometriosis, which affects about 1.5 million women in the UK.
"When I was 11, I remember being in a lot of pain. I thought it was pretty normal and just meant to be like that. There wasn't any research going into it, we didn't know much about it."
"Three weeks out of every month I was going through that. "My doctor put her on the Pill to help manage the pain but it gave her migraines, so she came off it in 2018."
"The only treatment offered to her was a Mirena coil, and she now feels she has been 'put on the back burner' with no further medication."
