What We Know About Wendy Williams's Diagnosis
"Citing sources with direct knowledge of the situation, TMZ reported on November 11 that Williams recently completed a "battery of tests" in New York City that led an unnamed "top neurologist" to conclude that Williams does not have frontotemporal dementia. Williams was placed under a guardianship in 2022 after her bank declared that she was at risk of being financially exploited."
"Representatives for Williams announced last year that she had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2023, although the former Wendy Williams Show host has publicly shared her belief that she was misdiagnosed. This March, Williams claimed to have taken mental-competency tests at a hospital and passed "with flying colors." But in August, reported that Williams's diagnosis was upheld after she underwent brain imaging and a "significant" number of medical and neuropsychological tests."
"So what is the truth? We might have to wait for this to play out in court. According to TMZ, Williams's legal team received the neurologist's recent results late last month. The team reportedly plans to file court documents within the next two weeks in an apparent bid to set a hearing where a judge could terminate Williams's guardianship. Attorney Joe Tacopina has indicated a willingness to take further legal action if that doesn't happen."
A neurologist found no evidence of frontotemporal dementia after a battery of tests. Williams entered guardianship in 2022 after her bank determined she was vulnerable to financial exploitation. Representatives announced a frontotemporal dementia diagnosis in 2023, and Williams has argued she was misdiagnosed. In March she said she passed mental-competency tests at a hospital. In August the diagnosis was upheld following brain imaging and multiple medical and neuropsychological tests. Williams's legal team recently received the neurologist's results and plans to file court documents seeking a hearing to end the guardianship. An attorney said he would seek a jury trial if a judge does not terminate the guardianship.
