The article discusses the impact of stigma on mental health, as articulated by Sagar Parikh from CREST.BD. Stigma affects behaviors related to treatment adherence. Theatre is explored as a method for reducing stigma, with personal performances serving to open dialogue and educate health professionals and the public. The initiative aims to reflect on decisions surrounding mental health treatment and demonstrate a face of recovery. More broadly, the findings emphasize the need for ongoing efforts to destigmatize mental illness at various societal levels.
"Stigma determines not only how people feel, but how they behave, whether they take treatment and so on," said Sagar Parikh, part of the CREST.BD network in an interview at the American Psychiatric Association Annual Meeting.
I perform to do my part in dismantling stigma, to show one face of recovery. My audiences range from organizations to associations, from conferences to corporations in a wide variety of sectors.
