Emergency departments are sophisticated places that treat numerous illnesses. However, their capacity to address nebulous mental health issues like anxiety and panic is limited.
Many patients who visited the ED for mental health issues report a lack of alleviation and, in some cases, even traumatization due to their experiences.
In a 2016 study, patients expressed dissatisfaction with their ED experiences, citing complaints like 'Emergency rooms are cold and clinical' and being treated like they are 'crazy'.
