Pioneering project by Welsh National Opera suggests music can alleviate chronic pain
Briefly

A pioneering project by the Welsh National Opera has integrated music into a pain management program, showing promising results in alleviating persistent pain. Participants reported that engaging in singing and breathing exercises helped ease their symptoms and improve mental health. An independent report revealed that two-thirds of the participants noted reductions in pain. While the program did not cure their chronic illnesses, it offered valuable coping techniques. A participant, June Evans, shared how the program significantly impacted her outlook on life, transforming her anxiety and helplessness into empowerment through music.
"Before I took part I felt my life was over. I was anxious and frightened. I only went out of the house for hospital appointments... What was the point in carrying on?"
"I couldn't do anything, go anywhere, enjoy anything... Your microphone is muted so you can sing your heart out. You learn techniques on how to cope with the pain."
