Julie never imagined hoarding would dominate her life. As help is cut, she fears for the future
Briefly

Julie, a 71-year-old from Point Cook, Melbourne, is dealing with severe hoarding issues, exacerbated during COVID lockdowns. Despite being socially active, she struggles with clutter that fills her home and memories of her parents. The Brotherhood of St Laurence's Care Finder program previously assisted her with these challenges, but funding cuts have left her without support. Julie finds it difficult to let go of items, fearing the loss of memories they represent, a feeling common among those struggling with hoarding disorder.
During Covid lockdowns it was at its worst - nothing was leaving the house. The piles were getting larger, filling her two-storey home.
The shame of hoarding is wrapped up in secrecy. Only her daughter and two friends know. None of them can help her.
