In August 2014, biologist Steve Krichbaum faced a terrifying bear attack while searching for turtles in West Virginia. While his dog Henry played nearby, Krichbaum was charged by an adult black bear. Despite his efforts to fend it off, the bear gravely injured him. In a dramatic turn, Henry intervened by attacking the bear, allowing Krichbaum to escape. After the ordeal, both recovered from their injuries – Krichbaum with 50 stitches and Henry with 40, showcasing the deep bond and courage that saved them both during the traumatic encounter.
I'm in a foetal position and her head was literally a foot away from my head... my God, if she keeps doing this, I'm afraid she's going to get my femoral artery.
Well, that got her attention. She let go of Krichbaum, turning on Henry. She's biting him in his chest and stomach and he's literally screaming.
I was just, oh my God, he's hurt, and I don't know where he is. Is he going to die out here? That was one of the most miserable two hours of my life.
Staggering back towards his car, Krichbaum called and called for him. When he finally reached the car, there's Henry, waiting for me.
