Hudson Valley hospital network agrees to mental health overhaul following state investigation
Briefly

WMCHealth has committed to restoring psychiatric beds and improving mental health services after a state investigation prompted by community concerns. The agreement includes reopening 20 psychiatric beds at HealthAlliance Hospital and establishing a new 20-bed psychiatric unit at MidHudson Regional Hospital. Additionally, WMCHealth will reform discharge planning and constraints policies, particularly for children, and will pay $400,000 in fines. The investigation highlighted the significant impact of reduced psychiatric services, and Attorney General Letitia James emphasized the importance of treating mental health crises as urgent medical emergencies.
"Mental health care is medical care, and mental health crises must be treated as the emergencies they are," James said in a statement.
"Our goal is always to provide the highest quality care for every patient and take immediate action to address any situation where we can improve," said Andrew LaGuardia.
