College Connects Students to Creative Arts for Mental Health
Briefly

Many students leave college due to poor mental health, with 40 percent indicating significant impacts on academics. Rutgers created ScarletWell in 2024 to enhance campus resources addressing student needs. A vital element of ScarletWell is Scarlet Arts Rx, which connects arts with student well-being. Directed by Peichi Waite, this program promotes arts activities to alleviate stress and enhance joy and empathy. Offering free tickets to various performances, Scarlet Arts Rx raises awareness among students about community events, which can boost participation in campus activities.
"Through Scarlet Arts Rx, students learn about and are provided with many free opportunities to experience how the arts can be an important tool for their emotional uplift, social engagement and community bonding."
"Leaders at Rutgers University created ScarletWell in 2024 to coordinate efforts centered on student well-being and health across the institution's four campuses."
