Receiving an ADHD and autism diagnosis can initially offer relief by explaining experiences. However, it may also create challenges in navigating social interactions and relationships. Many individuals feel understood through diagnosis yet experience isolation due to the differences in perception of reality. While a diagnosis helps to categorize and articulate lived experiences, it often lacks explanations about underlying causes. The knowledge of neurodivergence may shift one’s perspective on self and others, leading to a pronounced sense of 'otherness.'
A diagnosis can identify and label experiences but often does not provide insights into causes or explain how someone experiences the world.
Receiving a diagnosis can provide a sense of understanding and liberation, but it may also lead to feelings of isolation and confusion about one’s identity and relationships.
