Why Are Some Still Opposed to Life-Saving Addiction Treatment?
Briefly

A recent study in Drug and Alcohol Dependence highlights the critical importance of MAT: Methadone and buprenorphine were associated with 62% and 66% lower mortality rates, respectively, compared to no treatment. Meanwhile, abstinence-based, non-medication treatments were linked to higher mortality rates than no treatment at all.
It’s disheartening to encounter program after program that refuses to consider agonist maintenance treatment-using medications like buprenorphine (Suboxone) or methadone for as long as necessary to help patients achieve their goals.
Despite the clear benefits, many programs oppose prescribing these medicines. The primary reason appears to be bias, rooted in outdated ideas that taking prescribed medication disqualifies a person from being "truly in recovery." This stigma has prevented countless individuals from even trying these potentially life-saving treatments.
