Travis County is launching a jail-based substance use intake program with a $1.6 million federal grant to aid individuals transitioning from incarceration back to community.
Judge Andy Brown emphasized the program offers holistic support, creating a pathway to recovery and continuity of care to help break the cycle of substance use.
Dr. Nick Yagoda highlighted that people exiting incarceration face an increased risk of overdose, especially without access to treatment during their transition.
Yagoda noted that while in jail, individuals' tolerance changes; without support post-release, the chance of relapse and overdose significantly increases.
