Rupert Lowe, MP for Great Yarmouth, criticized taxpayer-funded translators for the NHS, stating they are a "complete waste of money" and insisting that patients should speak English.
He dismissed concerns about some patients feeling comfortable in their native language, asserting firmly, "They live in England, they should speak English."
Ash Sarkar countered Lowe's argument by emphasizing that the real issue lies not in translator costs but rather in the effects of 14 years of austerity.
Sarkar suggested that the broader issue affecting patient care in the NHS is the systemic underfunding over the past decade, rather than the provision of translation services.
