Hialeah Councilwoman Angelica Pacheco surrendered to the FBI on June 20 after being indicted on healthcare fraud charges accusing her of falsely billing private insurers millions of dollars for medically unnecessary services at her addiction treatment center.
Pacheco is charged with exploiting her businesses to submit $19.1 million in bogus bills for substance abuse therapy, urine analysis tests, and other services to multiple insurance companies between July 2017 and August 2020, as per a grand jury indictment.
The 37-year-old registered nurse pleaded not guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud, five counts of healthcare fraud, and two counts of wire fraud.
