NHS leaders have admitted the dentistry recovery plan, initiated by the previous Conservative government in 2024, has not succeeded in alleviating the dental care crisis in England. Key initiatives, including 'Golden Hello' bonuses and mobile dental vans, fell far short of their goals, with only 39 dentists hired versus a target of 240. Furthermore, many patients remain unable to find available NHS dentists, resulting in areas deemed as 'Dental Deserts'. According to research, 90% of NHS dentists are not accepting new adult patients, highlighting the critical shortage of dental services across the UK.
The very short answer is no. Within the Dental Recovery Plan, there were four components...but the solutions were unsuccessful.
Many patients struggle to access NHS dental care, with some towns now known as 'Dental Deserts', in which there are simply no NHS dentists at all.
