The Royal Free Charity has launched a 'Hands Up! for your hospital' campaign to bolster the support it gives to the 1.6 million patients and 12,000 members of staff across the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. This effort encourages local communities to contribute through fun fundraising activities.
Jon Spiers, chief executive of the Royal Free Charity, emphasized the urgency, stating: "We're asking our local communities to lend the NHS a helping hand this winter," highlighting the importance of sustaining vital services like dementia and cancer support.
The charity's support hub, the first of its kind in a UK hospital, provides essential services, including housing and welfare advice, helping vulnerable patients avoid homelessness post-hospitalization, demonstrating the critical intersection of health and social care.
For just £20, an elderly patient can receive an hour of volunteer companionship, illustrating how even small donations can meaningfully enhance patient care and ensure dignity in healthcare.
