EU public health body raises mpox risk alert level; expects further cases of more contagious variant

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control announced an increased risk level for mpox after the first case of a new strain was confirmed in Sweden.

ECDC's leadership indicated more imported cases of the new mpox strain are expected to emerge in Europe, but the overall risk of sustained transmission is considered low.
