Investigators found that Robert Murphy, a former sports medicine director at NC State, engaged in unwelcome and sexual conduct towards a male athlete. Concerns about his behavior were raised as early as 2014. Former men's soccer coach Kelly Findley reported his worries about Murphy's actions to university officials in 2016. A Title IX investigation was launched in January 2022 after a report from former player Ben Locke. Locke and others have filed a civil lawsuit against Murphy and university officials, claiming the school ignored warnings about his behavior since 2012.
