Dirty "vampire facials" behind first HIV outbreak linked to spa treatments
Briefly

At least three women in New Mexico were left with HIV infections after receiving 'vampire facials' at an unlicensed spa. This marked the first time HIV infections have been linked to a cosmetic procedure.
The outbreak investigation found that a woman who tested positive for HIV had no clear risk factors for acquiring the infection, except for receiving a vampire facial at the VIP Spa in Albuquerque.
'Vampire facials' involve a platelet-rich plasma microneedling procedure, claimed to rejuvenate skin. The unlicensed spa in question had no appointment system or client contact information.
