Dr. Moro O. Salifu has been appointed as the Governor-elect Designee of the American College of Physicians for the Brooklyn/Queens and Staten Island chapter, becoming the first Black governor on the New York board. Originally from Ghana, Salifu became aware of healthcare disparities early on. After studying medicine in Turkey and specializing in the U.S., he has dedicated his career to addressing health disparities, particularly for Black patients, and has held significant leadership roles within the ACP and local health initiatives.
"I got to see firsthand how people in my hometown were struggling with small, little ailments, and there was just barely [any] help. There was one big hospital, but it was mostly understaffed."
"It's the same thing across the world. I came to America thinking that America has all the doctors, but we still don't have enough."
