A new study of nearly 1,400 U.S. patients with severe traumatic brain injuries found that some patients for whom life support was withdrawn may have survived and recovered some level of independence a few months after injury.
Clinicians' assumption of poor outcomes post-TBI leads to withdrawal of life support, influencing decision-making. There are no current guidelines to predict TBI recovery.
