On March 13, Feinberg School of Medicine's Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) chapter celebrated the induction of 42 new members, honoring exceptional accomplishments in medical education and practice. Dr. Shilajit Kundu opened the ceremony, introducing Dr. Benjamin Singer, who delivered a keynote on his experiences as a physician-scientist and treatments for COVID-19-related pneumonia. Singer's research highlighted the risks associated with prolonged ICU stays and ventilator-associated pneumonia during the pandemic. The event acknowledged both the achievements of new inductees and the important discussions around improving patient outcomes in critical care.
This year, we induct the 122nd class of Alpha Omega Alpha here at Northwestern, where we honor students, faculty and house staff for their outstanding achievements in their educational journeys and in their professions.
This is proof of principle, rapid translation and also a story about humility. Revaluating your assumptions, revaluating and learning from the data that you generated.
It's an honor to be inducted into AOA and I feel very fortunate that my work and effort has been recognized.
During his lecture, Singer discussed his journey becoming a physician-scientist in pulmonary and critical care medicine, and key takeaways from treating patients with severe SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia.
