A New Study Explored the Pros and Cons of Drugs Like Ozempic
Briefly

GLP-1 drugs, traditionally used for diabetes management, have expanded in use for weight loss and treating various health issues. Research by Yan Xie, Taeyoung Choi, and Ziyad Al-Aly, published in Nature Medicine, assessed 175 health conditions in relation to GLP-1 drugs through a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs database. Their findings indicated that these medications decreased risks for neurocognitive and respiratory disorders but also linked them to increased risks for chronic conditions such as arthritis and gastrointestinal complications, highlighting the complex effects of these drugs on health.
Ozempic and similar GLP-1 drugs, once exclusively for diabetes, now show varied effects in treating numerous health issues, revealing both benefits and risks.
