Sports Illustrated removed traces of reporter Parker Loverich after allegations that AI may have been used to generate published work. The controversy began with a Sportico article that used specific data. Two days later, Sports Illustrated published a similar report using Sportico’s data without attribution. Sportico editor Dan Bernstein accused Sports Illustrated of plagiarism and suggested AI may have been involved. Sports Illustrated deleted the article, and Loverich’s online accounts and website profile were removed. Sports Illustrated later told Awful Announcing that Loverich was a real person. The outlet has previously experimented with AI-generated articles and created fake author profiles for bylines.
