Schneps Media: Empowering the next generation of storytellers
"I thought I would never get a real chance in journalism. I was hopeless. Fast-forward to a few months into her internship with Schneps Media, when Arozarena bylined several pieces on the impact ICE deportations have had on the families left behind. Under the guidance of Dean Moses, Police Bureau Chief at amNewYork and award-winning photographer, she continues to build confidence and conviction in the unique perspective she brings to the field."
"This opened my mind to the realization that being a bilingual immigrant is not my weakness but my power that I can use to connect with people. This ability to build rapport through pointed questions, however, transcends the boundaries of any one beat."
"The industry is changing faster than most training programs can keep pace, so providing opportunities for hands-on practice, shadowing seasoned professionals and gaining exposure to the industry's evolution in real-time provides powerful tools to young professionals with a passion for storytelling."
Florencia Arozarena transitioned from a decade in the culinary industry to pursue writing and literature at Borough of Manhattan Community College. Initially doubting her journalism prospects, she secured an internship with Schneps Media where she authored pieces on ICE deportations and their impact on families. Under mentorship from Dean Moses, Police Bureau Chief at amNewYork, Arozarena discovered that her bilingual immigrant background strengthens rather than weakens her reporting abilities. Her thoughtful questioning impressed senior staff, leading to her participation in interviews with 2025 NYC mayoral candidates. Schneps Media's internship program, founded in early 2024 by Dylan Christie and Bobby Hankinson, has launched over 100 early careers by providing hands-on training, professional shadowing, and real-time industry exposure to aspiring media professionals.
