Poynter announces 32 journalists selected for final Essential Skills for Rising Newsroom Leaders cohort of 2025 - Poynter
"Having exceptional skills as an editor, reporter, data, audio or visual journalist doesn't mean you'll automatically be a great manager. It's an entirely different skill. You have to learn to communicate with people across your own team and others. You have to understand what really motivates them and align that with your company's goals. That takes constant communication and empathy, two things we really dive in on during the week."
"The group convenes in early December at Poynter's St. Petersburg campus for a week of hands-on training that includes interactive lectures, small-group discussions and feedback sessions from coaches. This workshop is part of Poynter's leadership development suite for media professionals at all management levels. Designed for journalists with five or fewer years in management or those facing imminent promotion into leadership roles, participants get guidance on onboarding and retaining talent, delegating effectively and leading result-driven conversations."
