A member of the Royal Navy has died following a training incident involving a Merlin Mk4 helicopter that ditched in the English Channel during night exercises.
Defence Secretary John Healey expressed his condolences, stating that news of personnel dying serves as a tragic reminder to everyone connected with the armed forces.
The Royal Navy confirmed that a full investigation will take place to understand the circumstances surrounding the helicopter's ditching in the Channel.
The upgraded Merlin Mk4 helicopter, involved in the incident, is noted for its excellent safety record, with its last reported accident dating back to 2010.
