"This is another reminder that a small and savvy newsroom can do superb work," said Executive Editor Lydia Chavez. And we will continue to do so, serving the Mission District, San Francisco, and our readers."
Judges were particularly impressed with our focus on data and visual journalism, our ongoing election coverage, and our commitment to training young reporters.
We described ourselves as 'San Francisco's pluckiest outlet,' and judges agreed. Our submission included: Our much-missed data reporter, Will Jarrett, has his fingerprints all over this entry, and this award is a testament to the impressive data work he began at Mission Local and that we've built on.
We've done it again: Mission Local took home the 'general excellence' award from the Online News Association... the second time in three years we've been honored with the national prize.
