Mikel Landa's Vuelta a Espana dream collapses in 'the cradle of Landismo'

Landa was surprisingly unable to follow when Richard Carapaz accelerated on the climb of Puerto Herrera, and a ten-metre gap quickly stretched out to half a minute.
Despite the best efforts of his team, the gap to Landa’s podium rivals continued to mushroom, and he eventually settled into a sizeable chasing group.
Landa would reach Maeztu exactly ten minutes down on stage winner Urko Berrade and lost 3:20 to his podium rivals.
