I thought I knew lightsabers - now I really do after hearing how they were made for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
Briefly

Visual Effects Supervisor Chris McLaughlin and his team at DNEG worked on the VFX for the Disney+ series 'Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.' Through collaboration with Chris Balog from Lucasfilm, McLaughlin learned the specific details that enhance the iconic lightsaber's appearance. The lightsaber designed for 'Skeleton Crew' was distinct, featuring a unique color blend of purple, cyan, and blue. DNEG, consisting of about 800 artists, contributed to the visual elements of three episodes, marking a notable entry for a studio traditionally overshadowed by ILM in the Star Wars universe.
"It was good to get Chris' input on the detail of the lightsabers. Everyone thinks they know what a lightsaber looks like, but now I really know."
"In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the Kylo Ren lightsaber had a kind of cross hilt, and it looked like it's almost malfunctioning. Ours wasn't quite as handmade as that."
