Health and safety chief sues beauty giant for millions after horror warehouse fall
"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging."
"A health and safety chief for an e-commerce company is suing his employers for millions after he fell three storeys from a balcony at work. But his bosses say the accident was his fault, saying he was precariously leaning out to take a photo on his phone at the time. Glyn Caddick, the chief operating officer and head of health and safety for online cosmetics company Beauty Bay, plummeted to the floor of a warehouse in Salford in February 2022."
The Independent covers reproductive rights, climate change and Big Tech, investigates issues such as Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC and produces documentaries about American women fighting for reproductive rights. The outlet solicits donations to fund reporters on the ground, maintains open access without paywalls, and says quality journalism should be paid for by those who can afford it. Glyn Caddick, chief operating officer and head of health and safety at Beauty Bay, fell three storeys in February 2022, suffered multiple life-changing injuries and spent nine months in hospital. He is suing Beauty Bay Ltd and Gxo Logistics UK for millions, claiming the balcony railing breached safety regulations, while the companies deny liability and allege he leaned out to take a photo and caused his own injuries.
