CBS News told that it made an "independent decision" to do just that."
"King is believed to earn around $15 million per year from the network, and that figure is no longer affordable. There are multiple ways this could go, according to the trade. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt threatened before cameras stopped rolling that President Trump would sue CBS if Tony Dokoupil's interview with him were cut or edited. CBS News said it made an "independent decision" to edit the interview. Internal friction has increased under Bari Weiss, and longtime employee Gayle King faces potential role and salary changes as her reported $15 million annual pay is considered unaffordable. Options include a reduced salary for another year or a shift to a correspondent role with less frequent appearances. Ownership spending and takeover attempts have tightened budgets, led to layoffs, and made advertisers cautious about some programming.
