Comcast expands partnership with Olympics, extends media rights through 2036
Briefly

Comcast and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have entered into a groundbreaking $3 billion agreement that extends Comcast's media rights for the Olympics through to 2036. This landmark deal transitions Comcast from a media rights holder to a strategic partner, emphasizing collaboration in broadcast infrastructure, digital advertising, and in-venue distribution. The new contract allows Comcast to broadcast the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2034 and the 2036 Summer Olympics. The partnership aims to enhance the Olympic viewing experience for fans in the U.S. amid an evolving media landscape.
"This agreement with Comcast is groundbreaking because it goes far beyond the traditional media rights agreement which we have had for many years with our valued partner," IOC President Thomas Bach said.
"We live in a time when technology is driving faster and more fundamental transformation than we've seen in decades. This groundbreaking, new, long-term partnership between Comcast NBCUniversal and the International Olympic Committee not only recognises this dynamic but anticipates that it will accelerate," Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian Roberts said.
