""I am confident her entrepreneurial drive and editorial vision will invigorate CBS News," said David Ellison, who took over this summer as the corporate leader overseeing the network when his company, Skydance, purchased Paramount. "This move is part of Paramount's bigger vision to modernize content and the way it connects - directly and passionately - to audiences around the world.""
"Ellison said that Weiss will "shape editorial priorities, champion core values across platforms and lead innovation in how the organization reports and delivers the news.""
Paramount purchased The Free Press and installed Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief of CBS News. The Free Press reached about 1.5 million subscribers since Weiss launched it after leaving The New York Times. Weiss resigned from the Times citing a culture of intolerance and said she was bullied by colleagues who disagreed with her. Weiss will report directly to David Ellison and will partner with CBS News President Tom Cibrowski, who reports to Paramount executive George Cheeks. The editor-in-chief role is new at CBS News and is intended to shape editorial priorities and drive innovation across platforms. Weiss said she plans to meet staff and learn what is working and what is not.
