""When we talk about what City Cast is, we actually no longer begin with the idea that we're a local podcast network, even though that is the most familiar thing to most people,""
""Our view is, we are driving the local conversation in cities, and we are using that to help make people better neighbors.""
""too big for any one person to comprehend,""
City Cast operates in 13 cities with a staff of around 90 and remains unprofitable despite ongoing expansion. New operations launched in Seattle and the Twin Cities this fall while Houston and Boise were closed in October. The closures coincided with a companywide shift toward being faster-moving, personality-driven, and social-first. Decisions to shutter markets were based on whether the energy and attention required justified continued investment and the prospect of reaching profitability in a reasonable timeframe. The organization treats podcasting, newsletters, events, and social media as channels to drive local conversation and strengthen community connection. Earlier assessments noted stronger performance in mid-sized cities with clear identities, while very large cities can be harder to capture.
