Google is facing a trial on September 22, initiated by the Justice Department's request for the company to sell parts of its monopolistic digital advertising business. A federal judge determined that Google maintains two illegal monopolies causing substantial harm to customers. The DOJ proposes that Google divest its publisher ad server and ad-exchange businesses, alongside sharing real-time advertising data with competitors, asserting these measures would foster competition. Google, however, argues against forced sale, claiming it would detrimentally impact the digital ad market and plans to appeal the ruling.
In addition to depriving rivals of the ability to compete, this exclusionary conduct substantially harmed Google's publisher customers, the competitive process, and, ultimately, consumers of information on the open web.
The DOJ attorneys argued for Google to divest its publisher ad server business and its lucrative ad-exchange market, as these practices have harmed both customers and competition.
