Dr. Or Brook from Leeds University has initiated a class-action lawsuit against Google, claiming it has abused its substantial market power causing £5 billion in damages to UK advertisers. Representing numerous businesses, Brook reports that Google’s policies, such as forcing Android manufacturers to promote their Chrome browser, restrict competition. This suit follows global perceptions of Google as a monopoly, directly impacting advertisers. Brook emphasized that this case seeks justice and accountability for unlawful practices that have led to heightened advertising costs for UK organizations.
Dr. Or Brook stated, 'UK businesses and organisations have almost no choice but to use Google ads... securing a spot on Google's top pages is essential for visibility.'
Damien Geradin noted, 'through a range of deliberate and exclusionary practices, [Google] has sought to eliminate its rivals and dominate the search advertising market, ultimately overcharging UK advertisers by billions of pounds.'
