World Federation of Advertisers discontinues small brand safety initiative after Elon Musk's X sues
Briefly

The World Federation of Advertisers is discontinuing its Global Alliance for Responsible Media initiative, stating that recent allegations misconstrued its purpose and activities, causing distraction and draining resources.
X, formerly Twitter, sued the World Federation of Advertisers, alleging that GARM's role in coordinating an advertising pause after Elon Musk's acquisition led to withholding billions in revenue, violating antitrust laws.
"No small group should be able to monopolize what gets monetized," X CEO Linda Yaccarino responded to allegations, calling GARM's discontinuation a necessary step in the right direction.
While GARM's end may benefit X in the short term, a legal battle with the advertisers it sued looms. The continuation of GARM's digital safety work through the World Federation of Advertisers is uncertain.
