The US House has voted 360-58 in support of a bill that would ban the video-sharing app TikTok if Chinese owners ByteDance fail to sell within 270 days. US officials allege that ByteDance is subservient to the Chinese Communist Party, posing a security threat.
TikTok called the potential ban 'unfortunate,' stating it would 'trample the free speech rights' of millions. They argued a change in ownership wouldn't impact data flows.
Former President Trump, previously close to banning TikTok, now opposes it, linking a ban to making Facebook stronger.
