TikTok has removed accounts linked to Russian state media for engaging in 'covert influence operations' ahead of the U.S. presidential election, affecting TV-Novosti and Rossiya Segodnya.
The U.S. Department of Justice emphasizes that Moscow continues to pose a significant threat to the election process, citing a broader trend of foreign influence and misinformation campaigns.
In the wake of TikTok's actions, Rossiya Segodnya asserted the importance of alternative perspectives, stating, 'There are many people from different countries who value an alternative point of view on events happening in the world.'
Meta Platforms had already enacted similar measures against Rossiya Segodnya and RT, leading to criticisms from the Kremlin, which accused these companies of censorship.
