Elon Musk or Larry Ellison could buy TikTok, Trump says
Briefly

President Donald Trump expressed openness to the idea of Elon Musk or Larry Ellison purchasing TikTok during a press briefing. This comes against a backdrop of legal requirements for TikTok's Chinese owner, ByteDance, to either divest from the US operations or cease its activities there. While other investors, including YouTuber MrBeast, have shown interest in acquiring the app, ByteDance's leadership has indicated a preference for shutting down TikTok in the US rather than selling it, reflecting significant geopolitical tensions surrounding the platform.
When asked whether he would be open to Elon Musk buying TikTok, Trump replied, 'I would be, if he wanted to buy it, yes.' He also expressed desire for Larry Ellison to purchase the app.
Despite the bids from American investors, TikTok's Chinese parent company, ByteDance, stated in 2024 that they prefer to shut the app down in the US over selling it.
