China has hinted at a potential openness to the sale of TikTok's US operations, a marked change from its earlier, vehement opposition. During a recent briefing, a Ministry spokesperson emphasized that business operations should align with market principles and be independently decided, although it reiterated the importance of adhering to Chinese regulations. This comment contrasts sharply with previous statements which condemned the US government's sale mandates as unfair. While this shift opens the door to negotiations, China retains the power to block any transaction through its existing regulations.

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously condemned the forced divestiture law, claiming it violated fair competition and international trade rules.
