Wayne Rooney claims wife Coleen saved his life after alcohol abuse
""I wanted to go out and enjoy my time with my friends and having a night out. It got to a point where I went too far, of course it did. That was a moment in my life where I was struggling massively with alcohol. Massively struggling and I didn't think I could turn to anyone. I didn't really want to because I didn't want to put that burden on anyone.""

Wayne Rooney struggled massively with alcohol during his playing career and at times could not see who to turn to. Coleen Rooney provided sustained support that Rooney credits with keeping him alive and helping him through those struggles. Rooney enjoyed nights out with friends that escalated into prolonged drinking episodes, including occasions where he reported for training after two days of drinking. Disciplinary incidents during the career included being dropped by Sir Alex Ferguson in December 2011 for breaking a curfew and apologising to England management in November 2016 after inappropriate images were published. Rooney later moved into management roles after retiring as a top scorer.
