Hanna Lundkvist will join Manchester United on 1 January on a contract running until June 2029. The 23-year-old right-back left San Diego Wave last week and previously played for Atletico Madrid and Hammarby. She started every Sweden game at Euro 2025 and holds 17 international caps. Lundkvist will join Sweden teammates Anna Sandberg, Fridolina Rolfo and Julia Zigiotti Olme at United. She is drawn to the opportunity to compete in the Champions League and the Women's Super League, which she regards as one of the strongest leagues in the world. Manchester United sit fourth in the WSL and will face Atletico in a Champions League knockout play-off in February. Lundkvist is the club's first signing of a transfer window that manager Marc Skinner described as "aggressive."
