Ruben Amorim has been sacked by Manchester United after a breakdown in his relationship with director of football Jason Wilcox. Amorim expressed frustration at a lack of January transfer movement during a news conference at Carrington before the trip to Leeds United. After a 1-1 draw at Elland Road he told club bosses he wants to be "manager, not the coach" and aimed a barb at Wilcox to "do his job." Amorim managed United for 14 months after succeeding Erik ten Hag in November 2024, winning 24 of 63 matches and 15 Premier League games. United sit sixth with eight wins from 20 games this season. Under-18s boss Darren Fletcher is expected to take over ahead of the trip to Burnley.
