Four Premier League matches kicked off simultaneously after Chelsea beat Fulham 2-0. Manchester United sought a first league victory following an embarrassing EFL Cup exit at fourth-tier Grimsby Town. United won 3-2 at Old Trafford when Bruno Fernandes converted a stoppage-time penalty. Casemiro's header struck the bar and rebounded in off Josh Cullen for an own goal. Lyle Foster and Jaidon Anthony scored for Burnley, while Bryan Mbeumo briefly restored United's advantage. VAR ruled out a later Foster goal for offside. Tottenham, Brentford, Sunderland and Everton also played as Newcastle prepared to visit Leeds United.
Manchester United finally earned their first win of the Premier League season in dramatic fashion, as Bruno Fernandes struck a stoppage-time penalty to seal a 3-2 victory over Burnley at Old Trafford. United started strongly and were rewarded midway through the first half when Casemiro's header crashed against the crossbar and rebounded in off Josh Cullen for an own goal. The hosts dominated before the break, with Amad and Mason Mount both going close, but failed to extend their lead.
That wastefulness was punished after the restart. Lyle Foster finished neatly from Jacob Bruun Larsen's cross to bring Burnley level, only for Bryan Mbeumo to restore United's advantage almost instantly. The end-to-end contest continued when Jaidon Anthony pounced on a rebound to equalise once more for the Clarets, setting up a tense finale. Burnley even thought they had gone ahead when Foster found the net again, but VAR intervened to rule the striker narrowly offside.
